OCBAUmberg Zipser's co-founding partner Dean Zipser received the Franklin G. West Award from the Orange County Bar Association (OCBA) at its annual Judges' Night on January 26, 2017. The West Award is the OCBA's highest honor, presented to outstanding attorneys and judges whose lifetime achievements have advanced justice and the law. As this year's West Award honoree, Dean is featured in the February edition of the Orange County Lawyer magazine. The article chronicles Dean's lifetime of achievement and service to the Orange County legal community. In conjunction with the West Award, Dean received a Certificate of Recognition from the City of Newport Beach in honor of his service to the Orange County community. Attorneys, including associates, leave law firms all the time for a variety of reasons. Sometimes it is in search of greener grass at a different law firm. Sometimes it is to go in-house. Sometimes it is to pursue a non-legal job (or perhaps an illegal job—but that is another article altogether). Sometimes it is to stay home and raise a family. Sometimes it is because the law firm dissolves. And sometimes it is because the law firm asked the lawyer to leave. Dean ZipserU/Z's Scott Garner and Dean Zipser co-presented a sold-out program to the Corporate Law Section of the Orange County Bar Association (OCBA) on January 10, 2017 entitled "Managing Litigation: Ethical Pitfalls for Corporate Counsel." The program was geared for corporate counsel, and covered ethical issues that arise in or can impact litigation, including conflicts of interest, privilege issues, email snafus, and e-discovery pitfalls.
